I have pre-written the next 2-3 bits of the demonverse, and am working on the 3/4th at the moment. After that, the focus will shift off Chloe, Amato and Desidero (though they will still have a presence within the world, much like the demons) and onto the 'main' plot, with Morgana and Myrddin and Cerberus and Eira.
This whole universe started with a real, black, fluffy kitten, outside a real, wild, abandoned church. This, in itself, is nothing strange. It was the fact that the kitten was there, day after day, in the same place as I passed by. My mind makes stories from next to nothing, so I started thinking: 'What
reason would a kitten be there for?' This led to Morgana; a harsh, powerful woman whom the kitten (named Cerberus as a pun) feared and served. The kitten was there for another reason - Morgana wished to have another servant, and poor, terrified Cerberus had to find one. A human one.
Why?
It was then my mind thought up a balance - Myrddin, and his own 'servant' Eira.
Well, the idea stagnated around there for a few years, to be honest. I drew more meaning into their names and characters and did a little, half-hearted research, but I had ideas I was more enthusiastic about (still do, actually. Agorned still feels more important than this world...so important that I'm not sure where to start!). It was only Script Frenzy (April, 2010) when I made a real effort towards this world. I developed an actual plot-arc. I
wrote. It was hard. Not because scripts are any harder than narrative writing - they're just different.
No, it was difficult because this human servant Morgana had forcibly recruited bored me. Her friends; mere background characters; were fun and lively to write, which was good. Morgana herself was tricky, as I didn't have a good read on her motivation, as was Myrddin, for similar reasons. Cerberus came and went as he pleased (typical cat!) and Eira was nice and easy to write, but there were limited reasons to put her in a scene. To address a lot of this, I put in a character-building scene with Cerberus and Talli (which I'll probably edit out in the rewrite - it was for me, to understand them, rather than an entertaining moment) and the creation of a 'little' backstory.
Let me share my facebook status from 7th April (at 3:23 AM...I should have known better!). "23/100 pages. Today has seen the creation of a beloved character, Mori. And beyond the scenes written today, he probably won't get another mention.
"
Protip: DON'T TRUST A DEMON! (I laughed my arse off when I found that again!)
So, I finished the actual plot of the 'film' (I was using the script more as a novel blueprint, though!), within Script Frenzy, hitting the 100 pages with an hour and a half to spare, even if it did mean throwing in a second and third mention of the demons, but they helped drive the plot forward. No problem, right?
Well, like a detective, I've been looking at the evidence (old facebook status', if you must know!). April was over, but the plot bunnies were hitting as early as 3rd May. By the 8th, I'd written down the 'more unequal than others' idea (eventually found here:
fav.me/d2w1rix). The rest, you already know. The demons spread themselves over more and more plot, and I spent more and more time writing about them!
Anyway, this is some word vomit explaining the development of the demonverse. It still doesn't have a proper name (it's veering towards many different names, one for each distinct part), it's still developing (there's a bit after the Script Frenzy plot which you may or may not hate me for, and the main plot has been changed to the point that I don't mind posting bits of it here, despite my stance on spoilers) and it's swallowed up a large part of my life (does feel much longer than that year and a half that it is!). It's infected the lives of people around me (my mother is trying to grow some Queen of the Night tulips in the front garden. She doesn't know what they really symbolize, but she's heard me going on about them too much!). Warning, demons, even half-demons, are contagious.
I'm also thinking of celebrating Mori's second birthday on 7th April 2012. This will take some explaining at uni.
(Well, you see, he's a demon; well, half-demon; and he stabbed a toddler, but he's really...well, mad, to be honest, but you've got to love that, because... Wait, didn't I mention he's a character I wrote? Oh,
that explains the weird look you're giving me! So, yeah, he's a fictional, mad, half-demon demon lord, who is good with kids and totally obsessed with the other demon lord, Veritas... You're giving me the look again.)
